About our organic dragon fruit

Scarlet skin, green scales – this exotic fruit really does look like the skin of a dragon. The flesh within is mildly sweet and refreshing, like a cross between a kiwi and a pear. The colour of the flesh can vary from a bright pink to a ghostly white, both are full flavoured and speckled with edible black seeds.

This special organic crop is being grown for us by two growers, Miguel Martínez and Francisco de Gea, on their farms on the coast of Murcia, Spain. Tropical fruit grows happily in this hot region, ripening slowly and naturally under the sun.

How to prepare

Dragon fruit are ripe when they give at a slight squeeze. Either peel off the skin and cut the flesh into slices (the seeds are edible), or simply cut it in half and scoop the flesh out with a spoon.

Gospa Citrus is run by Amadora Gahona and her children in Mairena del Alcor, near Seville – a region famed for its outstanding citrus fruits. There have been orange groves on their 60-hectare farm since 1867, and they were the very first orange farm in Andalucia to be awarded organic status.
