About

Marmande is a classic beefsteak variety, with fat, ribbed fruits that would look most at home in a Provençal market stall. Juicy, soft and refreshing, with a gentle, almost melon-like flavour, they make a striking addition to salads.

If yours arrive green-tinged, don’t wait for them to turn completely red; Marmande tomatoes ripen from the inside out, so some will remain slightly green on the outside even at their ripest.

How to prepare

Marmande tomatoes have very few seeds, making them ideal for salsas and salads (also a nice opportunity to show off their rich red flesh). Their delicate flavour is best paired with a sweet dressing, using sherry vinegar or mild, elegant chervil.

Storage

Delivered from our farm, so wash before cooking. Best kept out of the fridge and on a cool veg rack. Underripe tomatoes can be kept at room temperature, very ripe in the fridge - but bring to room temperature before eating for flavour.

As a variety, Marmande tomatoes can stay a little bit green, owing to the fact they ripen from the inside out. As part of this ripening process they can also sometimes split around the top of the tomato - its perfectly natural and doesn't affect the taste.

Class

Our tomatoes are sold as class 2. This means that they might not look cosmetically perfect, but they are grown for the very best flavour. (We have to tell you this to satisfy some EU rules).
